Bushwillow Private Villa, located within the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate, offers the perfect home-from-home safari experience from which to explore the wonders of the Greater Kruger region. Being surrounded by pristine African bush one doesn’t even have to wander off the front veranda and pool deck to experience an amazing variety of wildlife, from kudu, waterbuck and impala to warthog, and on occasion giraffe.

The luxury villa sleeps six people in three beautifully appointed air-conditioned double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The master suite occupies one side of the villa and is the largest option, offering private access to the secluded terrace and deck, where a sparkling plunge pool beckons – the outdoor shower off the bathroom enables one to shower under the stars, which is blissful.

On the other side of the villa are two further suites, one of which also opens onto the deck and terrace. These can be combined into a private, two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite, making it ideal for families.

The modern open-plan living area with its sumptuous organic décor – the African chic style giving it a wonderful sense of place, flows seamlessly onto the spectacular outdoor area with its large dining table and comfortable seating space.

This flows onto a wooden deck and private swimming pool. Sun loungers invite one to relax with a good book, catch up on your tan or just while away an afternoon appreciating the prolific birdlife around you.

Gather the family around the Bushwillow fire pit and enjoy catching up on the day’s activities, put the braai facilities to good use and finish off the evening with freshly brewed coffee as you listen to nightjars serenade the night. Perhaps you’ll be fortunate enough to hear the ‘whoop-whoop’ of a hyena in the distance.

The well-equipped kitchen enables one to cook up a storm should you get the urge, but with the wide selection of restaurants and takeaway options in Hoedspruit that is probably unlikely. The proximity of local supermarkets makes it easy to prepare for elaborate braais, and easy breakfasts. If that is too much of an ask, then arrange for the bed and breakfast option – we had a full English breakfast prepared for us which was served on the veranda, and so worth the added cost.

The lounge has comfortable couches as well as a TV with Netflix and Showmax, and a dining area with ample seating where guests can enjoy their meals together. Guests can also enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi access, making Bushwillow the perfect ‘work from home’ environment.

Done with work for the day? Or want a day off from exploring the area? Then hop in your vehicle and take an afternoon drive through the well-stocked Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. Pack the cooler box with the makings of a sundowner spread and linger alongside one of the waterholes and enjoy the sunset. If that’s a bit too sedentary for you, explore the estate on foot, by mountain bike or organise a horse back safari. Either way, you’ve got Africa on your doorstep.
