5 underrated destinations that deserve your attention

When it comes to planning a holiday, it’s very easy to get caught up looking at the same old destinations. It’s hard to find inspiration on unique destinations to visit – but here are just five of the world’s most underrated options to consider for your next getaway.

Texas, USA

Despite being the second largest state in the USA by both size and population, Texas is wildly underrated between visitors from overseas. With many favouring the east and west coast, with states such as California, New York and Florida being the main tourism draws, Texas has a lot to offer in every aspect – from culture to history, from natural beauty to pure thrills and excitement.

Cities such as Houston and Austin are great for a fulfilling yet unique city break. The latter city is said to be the live music capital of the world – if you’re a music aficionado, it needs to be on your bucket list.

Elsewhere, sites such as the Santa Elena Canyon and Huntsville’s Blue Lagoon are just some of the naturally stunning locations Texas has to offer. It’s definitely an all-rounder of a state, and its size and diversity means there’s something for everyone to enjoy here.

Fancy a safari? Botswana is undeniably one of the very best places for it – from the Okavango Delta to the sprawling Chobe National Park, the opportunities to spot a multitude of animals alongside gorgeous scenery is unparalleled by any other destination in Africa.

Depending on how you want to do your safari, Botswana offers plenty of opportunities to do it your way. Whether it be a luxury getaway in a lavish lodge, or a mobile camping safari up close to the animals roaming the plains, you’ll have a rewarding and fulfilling experience either way. Be on the lookout for the Big Five – you should be able to spot buffalo, elephants, lions, leopards and rhinos during your stay in Botswana.

Puglia, Italy

Situated in the “heel” of Italy’s “boot”, Puglia is one of the southernmost destinations of the country – expect sun-soaked, gorgeous landscapes, incredible beaches and tranquil beach towns to unwind in.

The region is favoured by local families due to its secluded qualities – it’s easy to get off the beaten track and unwind upon a quiet, untouched beach here. If you’re looking for an escape, Puglia is a perfect place for it.

That’s not to say there isn’t a lot to do here, though. The inner thrill-seeker within you will be pleased at the cliff jumping, diving and snorkeling opportunities to take advantage of in the region. For something a bit more culturally relevant, come to Puglia in the summer months to observe one of its food and music festivals.

Liechtenstein is arguably the most underrated destination in Europe – and it’s certainly one of the most underrated destinations in the world. Perhaps it’s because of its minute size (25 kilometres long by 12 kilometres wide), tucked in between Switzerland and Austria within steep mountain ranges and peaks.

Make the effort to travel here, however, and you’ll be in for an extremely rewarding experience. It’s almost like a fairy tale in Liechtenstein, with impossibly gorgeous castles perched upon hills, and long, winding hiking routes taking you through some of the most beautiful scenery in the entirety of Europe.

Taipei, Taiwan

Asia remains extremely popular for tourism, but many visitors flock to the same old destinations – Thailand, Cambodia, Bali and so on. Why not try somewhere new? Taiwan’s capital city could be that place.

Taipei is a very unique and intriguing city to discover. A blend of American, Japanese and Southeast Asian influences lend themselves to a rich, almost tangible culture that’s reflected in the food, architecture and the ways of life of the locals.

Be sure to visit one of Taipei’s many temples when you’re here to understand Taiwanese spirituality – and once the sun sets, head to one of the city’s bustling night markets for browsing and a bite to eat.

Note: This is a collaborative post with content supplied – BUT I would visit each and every one of these destinations in a flash given the opportunity!! The bucket list grows… 🙂
